    Hello
I have a idea what Skanomodu kan means:
We have many placenames in Norway and Sweeden with Skan, Skaun or Skaan. Skåne in sothern Sweeden, Skaun is a wery old areaname on four places in the eastland of Norway, maybe from 500 AD. All the places are laying by a the sea, a lake or a large river. On old nors was modu a synonym for a large river, but in Skanomodu kan modu means the same as on latin modus= measures, norwegian mål old nors màl.
Maybe the skane`s were tradecentra, who had rules and measures in goldweight. We have the same in the name Bjerkøy, and many places with bjerk in the names was old tradecentra who followed the Bjerkøy rules, and the later Kaupang from viking periode (793 – 1050)
Maybe the Skane places where herulian tradecentra, the herulians where seatled in Friesland, Denmark and maybe Scandinavia from 200 – 450 AD and after the fall og king Odowacer in Italy in 493 many of them vent to Norway, Vestfold to Sciringes Hall (today Skiringsal).
I am sorry for my poor english.
